Resume

One rung at a time.

LIFE IN ADVERTISING

Facebook Creative Shop : Creative Strategist, Auto (2018 - now)
Work with automakers and their agencies on the luxury sub-vertical to unearth new opportunities for scaled impact in creative testing, interactive storytelling and emerging technologies. Develop playbooks to champion mobile-first production in auto, lead teams on Ad Council projects and try to push the fun and the culture. Bake and make drinks for all willing takers.

Sue Studio : Writer | Creative Director (2012 - 2018)
Continued to work on Ford as a freelancer for GTB so I could be around for the kids, leading the digital launch of the new Fusion, working on the third Mustang Customizer, tackling their social accounts and writing countless blurbs of copy for vehicles when the need arose. Short stint on Purina, just for the dogs & cats.

Team Detroit : Digital Creative Director (2007 - 2011)
I led teams on various digital car launches for Ford. And by led, I mean, sat in tiny rooms for hours on end, working with people to come up with stuff we could be proud of. It worked. (I also wrote a lot because I can't help it.)

Wunderman/Team Detroit : Associate Creative Director (2006 - 2007)
I transitioned from Ford CRM to the digital work, heading up projects for a lot of Ford's SUVs. The highlight of this time period was working with the guy who voiced Kermit. He wasn't Jim Henson, but pretty close.

JWT Detroit : Associate Creative Director (2005 - 2006)
Worked on all vehicle launches for Ford with ancillary CRM support, and created a rewards program for the White Castle nuts out there called Crave Nation.

JWT Detroit : Senior Copywriter (2003 - 2005)
Worked on a customizable CRM brochure program for every Ford vehicle.  Somehow got myself involved in an agency-wide pitch for Focus TV spots, and our idea was produced. I named my cat after an old dude on the shoot.

JWT Detroit : Copywriter (2001 - 2003)
This is where I really cut my teeth in advertising. My boss, Lauren Crane, told me I was allotted three exclamation points in my copywriting career and I haven't disappointed her yet. (Personal writing doesn't count!)

FCB Detroit : Jr. Copywriter (2000 - 2001)
I switched career paths to advertising from publishing. Upended my life in NJ to move to MI. And lost the job within five months when FCB folded after Chrysler left. Best thing that ever happened to me.

LIFE BEFORE ADVERTISING

McGraw-Hill Higher Education : Editorial Coordinator (1998-2000)
This was the kind of job where you wonder why you went to college. I was working with professors who were working on textbooks, but I didn't need to actually be able to read the textbooks to do my job. That's when I decided to take a copywriting class at NYU and the rest is history. Well, my history.

Dell Magazines : Assistant Editor (1997 - 1998)
This is where I learned to love crosswords. We took puzzles that people had created and got to write our own clues for them. I wasn't some Will Shortz or anything, but it was fun and weird, and I've always liked fun and weird.

University of Michigan : BA in English, Language & Literature
I had a 3.7. If you filtered out anything that wasn't English-related, more like a 3.9. Does anyone care about this kind of stuff anymore? Probably not. Point is, I love words. Always have. Always will. Go Blue.

SOME OTHER STUFF I'M GOOD AT

Baking a mean chocolate chip cookie.
Really listening. (It leads to trust. Which leads to lasting friendships.)
Letting other people shine.
Making cocktails and throwing parties. (I've been doing it since I was 15.)
Sharing memes.

STUFF I'M NOT SO GOOD AT

Keeping my mouth shut when someone is doing the wrong thing.
Sleeping in my bed.
Not procrastinating.
Finishing the Saturday NYT crossword (as previously established).
Using semicolons appropriately.
