If car configuration was an Olympic sport, it'd be tested for doping.

Designed to be redesigned, Mustang is the most customizable car in the industry. We took that knowledge and built a tool fans could play with for hours - dreaming up their ultimate Mustang, over and over again. Since 2010, we've reimagined the customizer three times. Added an app. Two different games. Gave away four fan creations. And generated over seven million unique customized Mustangs. It's been one helluva ride.

Mustang Customizer: Part III

We partnered with Jam3 on the third iteration of the Customizer and, together, put all of the fun tech out there to good use. The car itself was rendered in live 3D WebGL, so you could check out your stripes and shiny rims from every angle. The same tech made it possible to export your favorite view over to Zazzle for some custom merch. We used AR to drop your creation into Google Streetview. And because, everything that is old is once new again, we had a GIF Generator for you to also customize. Of course it wouldn't be a Mustang app without a racing game. So we did that too.

Here's the app interface and a look at the car in Streetview.

Mustang Customizer: Part Deux

The sequel to the original Customizer started with our original partner, Firstborn, and then moved on to Red Interactive. The crux of this version was battling the Customizer community for whose Mustang was the shiniest of ponies. Basically, hot or not. Tinder for car customization. Every time you won a battle of looks, you got points. Points earned you badges. And all of that winning put you in the running to actually take home your dream Mustang. And four people did. (Lucky b@$tards.) This is the first time we created an app for the Customizer and, with it, a racing game. Because, well, Mustang.

Mustang Customizer: The Original

Working with Firstborn, we knew we wanted to tap into the huge Mustang customization fan base out there. These were people who were chatting on forums, posting pics of their cars and getting all worked up every time a new aftermarket part came out. We also knew it couldn't be your typical build-and-price type experience. Put those two thoughts together and it's easy to see where we ended up - with the first-of-its kind community-based customization tool. Four fans could customize a car together at the same time, chatting about it as they went. You don't even want to know what our monthly data storage costs were.
