I'd double-tap that.

Ford's Instagram feed was perfect for the die-hard fans. So many beauty shots! So little engagement! But it felt like a missed opportunity when you consider the app's community spirit. So we got to fixing that. Working with six Instragrammers whose own passions and styles intersected naturally with Ford's, we asked fans to 'gram back instead of just tapping and scrolling on. Engagement became a two-way street. The feed felt more intimate and relevant. And the stage was set for more fan interaction.

Taking a page out of Instagram's #WHP playbook, each week one of our collaborators challenged fans to show us their Fords through the lens of a unique hashtag.

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience working with Team Detroit... Sue, in particular, was very responsive and supportive. (She’s also got a great sense of humor).

#FORDdogs Contest

The last of our photo challenges was actually a contest. The winning fan would get a private photo shoot with Theron Humphrey (@thiswildidea). Theron and his coonhound, Maddie, are well-known around these Instaparts and engagement was through the roof. Ford gained a bunch of new followers and Theron met up with the winners in their home state of Utah to snap their tribe, human and furry alike.

Contest posts on both Ford's and Theron's feeds drove serious engagement.
We received over 3K unique submissions. 260K+ combined likes. 7K+ total comments.

Rolling Right Along

We continued to engage fans with new, unique hashtags each week. And instead of just one shot, we let Instagrammers like @camera_jesus and @Hayden_Scott take over our feed in a contiguous, storytelling #roadtrip.

Then Instagram led us to @finnanofenno.

We were brainstorming new ways to interact with Ford's Instagram community. And that's when the internet gods delivered Carlo. We saw this post, highlighting an artist from Milan, and thought, "Hey, let's ask him if he'd collab with our fans to transform pics of their cars." So, I DM'd him and, despite the fact I didn't speak Italian and his English is charmingly off, a partnership was formed.

We had fun. And Ford reached the coveted 1M follower milestone. Double tap, indeed.
